Riverwest Youth Development Programs
Archery
The Archery program is a unique offering in Milwaukee, focusing on life skills development, safety procedures, and responsible use of equipment. Led by a certified instructor, this program emphasizes the importance of safety and discipline. Despite its rigorous safety standards, archery is one of the safest activities, with an injury rate lower than that of golf or fishing.
Basketball Camp
The Basketball Camp introduces youth to the game of basketball, focusing on skill enhancement, teamwork, and exposure to different coaching styles. This camp offers a fun and engaging environment where participants can learn, improve, and develop a love for the game.
Book Club
Our Book Club fosters a love of reading by exposing youth to a wide variety of books they might not otherwise encounter. It offers a safe space for participants of all ages to delve deeper into literature, share their thoughts, and engage in meaningful discussions.
Cooking Club
The Cooking Club teaches the basics of cooking, including measuring ingredients and following simple recipes. Youth gain practical kitchen skills that they can take home, and the program also provides an opportunity for self-expression through the culinary arts.
Creative Journaling
This workshop guides youth through the art of writing and creative expression. Participants explore poetry, essays, fiction, and creative nonfiction by critiquing peer work, studying influential authors, and discussing their craft. The program also integrates visual art with writing, helping youth convey their shared experiences and develop essential skills in reading, writing, and communication.
Dance Class
In our Hip-Hop Dance class, youth are introduced to foundational dance routines, allowing them to express themselves creatively. The program emphasizes learning rhythm, coordination, and the joy of dance, providing a positive outlet for self-expression.
Lego Club
The Lego Club sparks curiosity and creativity as youth work in teams of 2-3 to build themed Lego structures. This program enhances problem-solving skills and promotes teamwork through friendly competition in various programming challenges.
Mural Club
In our Mural Club, youth collaborate with a professional artist to design and create murals that will be displayed in COA spaces. This artist-led residency gives youth a sense of ownership and pride as they see their ideas and artwork come to life, contributing to the beautification of their community.
