Project Description
COA’s Samson Family Resource Center: A Place of Belonging and Support
At COA’s Samson Family Resource Center (FRC), there is always an opportunity for families to read a book together, sing songs, do fun arts and crafts, or enjoy the sunshine on the playground. Children laugh and play together. Parents connect and listen to one another. Families create memories. The community comes together.
For Dale, COA’s Samson Family Resource Center is more than a space for children and parents to do fun activities together; it is a community of support. Dale and her daughter Olivia have been a part of the Samson FRC family since Olivia was just six months old.
“COA’s FRC is very important to moms like me and it has such an impact on our children. Going to the FRC helps teach Olivia how to play and share with other kids, and helps her achieve developmental milestones. It’s the perfect place for your child to grow and understand everything around them.” -Dale
Ms. Leticia, the Samson Family Resource Program Coordinator, is the heart of the program. Together, she and Ms. Jenna, Program Assistant, create a welcoming environment for children to learn and play and a space for families to connect.
“I teach the children like they are my own children or grandchildren. I put my whole heart into this program. I will do anything for them. That is the person I am.” -Ms. Leticia
“Ms. Leticia and the program are so helpful. Ms. Leticia is really good at what she does and she is working wonders with my daughter. She is always looking out for the kids’ best interests. She gives the best parenting advice and recommendations, just like a big sister.” -Dale
While visiting the FRC, parents are given opportunities to socialize and learn with one another, gain a deeper understanding of early childhood development, and connect with local resources to support them as parents and nurturers.
Throughout the year, children learn through play. They create slime, fingerpaint, and make lava lamps. They plant flowers, participate in storytime, and take part in cooking lessons.
Families bond. They go on field trips together to Kids in Motion. Celebrate holidays like Dr. Seuss Day, Pancake Day, and Valentine’s Day through fun events and activities.
Parents receive support. They learn activities they can do with their children at home. They receive parenting advice from Ms. Leticia, Ms. Jenna, and other parents. They have a chance to drink some coffee and see their children play with other children.
The Family Resource Center is a supportive, loving, safe, place for families to come together and build community with one another. At no cost to them, it’s a place where they can feel belonging and receive the support and resources they need.
“COA’s FRC is the best way to help out our future. “I love this place more than anything in the world. I wish I could be there every day!” -Dale
