Project Description
On November 28th the American Camp Association (ACA) granted COA’s Camp Helen Brachman an award for being its longest-serving camp in the State of Wisconsin! This prestigious award recognizes camps that have over 100 years of service. COA’s Camp Director, Eve Smallwood, and Camp Registrar, Leslie Woodruff, traveled to the annual ACA Wisconsin Fall Conference to receive the award.
Situated on 206 acres of scenic land in Almond, WI, COA’s Camp Helen Brachman received its first batch of eight campers in 1906—back when it was called Camp Sidney Cohen. Over time, Camp Sidney Cohen expanded and changed names to Camp Helen Brachman. COA has now been welcoming children to camp for over 112 years! Altogether, more than 10,000 children have experienced the joys of immersive, overnight camp at Camp Helen Brachman!
COA’s Executive Director, Thomas P. Schneider is thrilled to accept the award: “All of us are proud that COA has the longest serving camp program in Wisconsin, and proud that at COA we make this camp experience available to all children regardless of income.”
COA’s Camp Registrar, Leslie Woodruff, is also proud: “This award speaks to the continued dedication and commitment of COA to provide quality and safe camp experiences.”
COA is honored to be recognized by the American Camp Association!
